COMMENTARY: More just an ordinary white dinner wine, Sauvignon Blancs in the $15 to $20 range are ofttimes some of the best wines in the marketplace. The 2017 Decoy Sauvignon Blanc is poised to do a great chore at the dinner table. Pair its aromas and flavors of dried citrus and herbs with raw baby spinach, cucumbers, cocktail shrimp, and an emphasis of jalapeños. (Tasted: September 10, 2018, San Francisco, CA)

Since the countdown vintage of our Decoy Napa Valley Red Vino more than a quarter century ago, Decoy has taken an important place in the Duckhorn Portfolio of wines. With a reputation for delivering smashing quality at a remarkable price, Decoy has established a loyal following for its distinctive mode, which emphasizes ready-upon-release wines that are capable of expressing their full charm and complexity in their youth. Building on this foundation, Decoy has evolved from existence a single wine that supported the Duckhorn Vineyards brand to being a renowned winery in its own right.
The Decoy lineup at present includes a Sonoma County appellation-designated Red Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, too equally a California Rosé, Pinot Noir and Sparkling Wine, all of which highlight Decoy's commitment to producing attractively priced wines from exceptional vineyard sources.
Fruit for the Decoy program comes from a mix of Estate vineyards and peak grower vineyards. From the wealth of viticultural and winemaking talent we tin draw from, to our globe-class cooperage program and more than, Decoy benefits greatly from the remarkable resource of the Duckhorn Portfolio.
Home to a diverse array of smaller AVAs with varied microclimates and soil types, Sonoma County has something for every vino lover. Physically twice as large as Napa Valley, the region only produces about half the amount of wine only boasts both tremendous quality and variety. With its laid-back atmosphere and down-to-earth mental attitude, the wineries of Sonoma are appreciated by wine tourists for their friendliness and approachability. The entire canton intends to become a 100% sustainable winegrowing region by 2019.
Grape varieties are carefully selected to reflect the best attributes of their sites—Dry Creek Valley's consistent sunshine is ideal for Zinfandel, while the warm Alexander Valley is responsible for rich, voluptuous Cabernet Sauvignon. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are important throughout the county, most notably in the libation AVAs of Russian River, Sonoma Coast and Carneros. Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah have also establish a firm ground here.
Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a well-baked, refreshing multifariousness that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though information technology can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acerbity and intense aromatics. This diversity is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bong pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a loftier concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.
